Bitcoin fell below $83,000, as tensions in the Middle East and soaring U.S. bond yields weighed on the crypto market
On Thursday, Bitcoin extended its recent decline, as rising oil prices and higher U.S. Treasury yields sharply cooled investor interest in cryptocurrencies.
As of 2:13 a.m. Eastern Time (14:13 Beijing time), Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, fell 1.56% to $82,914.4. It hit a nearly three-week low of $82,300.5 during the session.
Prices of other cryptocurrencies also generally fell, dragged down by Bitcoin. After continuing to rise in the third quarter, the entire sector is facing certain profit-taking pressure.
Strategy Inc (NASDAQ: MSTR ), the largest corporate buyer, stepped up its holdings again this week but was unable to halt Bitcoin's downward trend.
