Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has reached an agreement to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand), a licensed Bangkok-based digital asset trading and brokerage platform, thereby gaining a compliant foothold in the Thai market.
Under the terms of the deal, existing shareholders including Japan's GMO Internet Group and its subsidiary GMO-Z.com Holdings (Thailand) will sell all their equity interests to BTGT Management (Thailand) - an entity in which Bitget holds an interest.
Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, including approvals related to a change of control.
Once the transaction is completed and approved, Bitget plans to provide its trading platform services to Thai users through locally operated exchanges.
